I was wondering if any of my fellow-film-loving followers would like to co-host this blog with me?
I’m always doing other things, I still have a compiled list of movies I want to review and I’ve done a couple that I’m yet to post, but I thought it would be cool to run it with someone else.

I came across this movie via french actor/heartthrob Gaspard Ulliel, a long-time favourite of mine.
Unfortunately it is an unfaithful version of the book of the same name (which by the way is a fantastic read) however the movie sort of contains a simplified version of the story which in itself is beautiful. When it comes to book-movie conversions I have to say I always do watch the movies first, then read the books and put the story together.
The Director of Whale Rider brings us her view of Sobran, a winemaker in 19th century France who after dealing with both the rejections from the winery and of his fathers permission to marry his lover, get’s drunk and stumbles through the vineyard and meets an angel named Xas. This is the beginning of a life-long love affair, a story full of betrayal, hatred, even more affairs, and a quest to make the perfect wine.
All I can say is I loved it, it’s not even the sort of thing I would normally watch but I’ve seen it about 3 -4 times now and yes, I absolutely love it!
The book itself is even more beautiful than the movie, the way its written, the character, everything.

I can’t express how much I loved this movie, the atmosphere to
it was just full of emotion, however if you aren’t a fan of
slow paced movies, and have a hard time understanding “artsy”
movies then this is not for you.
Directed by Lars Von Trier, the film focuses on the relationship between two sisters played by Kirsten Dunst and Charlotte Gainsbourg as one of them deals with
melancholia, a type of depression, while at the same time a nearby planet
threatens to collide into Earth. I’m not normally a fan of Kirsten Dunst
but her performance in this film certainly brought her up in my books.
Sure it doesn’t sound like much, but films like this really display emotions like
nothing else, and bring to light a sort of beauty in hopelessness.
This is only a short review because I think it would be hard to not spoil anything,
So if you love an artsy film, and sci-fi/fantasy then it is certainly for you.

It’s been far too long since my last rant/review and I apologize, I have been trying to focus on my short film writing, but it’s been a total mind block.
So tonight I give you my review of BENT starring Clive Owen, Ian Mckellen, Lothaire Bluteau and Mick Jagger.
Originally a play written by Martin Sherman, the film focuses on the persecution of homosexuals in nazi Germany, I have strayed from watching it for quite some time but I am so glad I did.
It is emotionally tearing, intense, and cinematically beautiful, and although some of the settings are historically innacurate the film portrays the nazi era precisely.
Naturally hoping for something good in a hopeless situation, but you recieve an honest interpretation of the holocaust leaving a hole where the heart is.
I have to say it is a must see movie, but certainly too painful to watch more than once.

I honesly thought the opening scene of Harry Potter 7 Part 2 where the dementors over shadow the school, Snape standing in the corrider, and the students marching through the courtyard was one of the most beautiful scenes in the entire franchise.
:)

I’ve had so much and so little on my mind lately that I had temporarily forgotten about my loveleh little film blog. So I thought I’d make my return with a dorky post ^_^
The first movie of my beloved X-Files will do perfectly.
While the show was entirely episodic it was said to have been like making a mini movie every episode, so a feature length film graced the screen in between the 5th and 6th seasons surrounding the origin of an alien virus that can infect any living thing and gestate inside a human host, creating a hybrid being to prepare for the coming final alien invasion… in wait for it… December 22, 2012.
After my lovely little nerd rant I will actual go on to review the movie.
The film really takes the show to a new level, everything about it was taken to new heights, stunts, effects, the way it was filmed, character relationships, everything, and can be enjoyed by anyone who hasn’t seen the show before. (I still recommend you watch it from the beginning of the series till the end of season 5 first however… you won’t regret it!)
All performances are solid as usual, and take the viewers on a mysterious action filled ride with the shows constant science fiction plotlines blown into epic proportions.
And if your a bigger fan boy/gal than I am, you are sure to enjoy it!

**********/ Yes, I have given it a 10, Deal with it. :)

If your a fan of foreign cinema this film is worth it. Mind you subtitles are hard to find and the only ones I could find weren’t entirely correct.
Anywho, the film deals with a single mother and her son Hubert who pretty much do nothing but quarrel through the entire film, the boy blaming things on her, and her ignoring any of his pain as he goes through the motions of adolescence and self discovery.
It’s nothing mind blowing, but french films always seem to capture the smallest things in ways that english speaking films dont, scenery, love scenes etc etc.
For example the love scene between Hubert and his boyfriend was rather raunchy but really beautiful too, after having decorated their apartment by throwing paint all over the walls (something I have personally always wanted to do haha) also a lot of beautiful little one liners such as
Hubert: What would you do if I died today?
His mother: I’d die tomorrow.
So for those who love all things cute, self discovery, and angsty teenager films.
You’ll love this.

My first blog is about an old favourite that I recently re-watched titled ‘Gorillas in the Mist’ released in 1988, starring Sigourney Weaver and Bryan Brown.
Based on a true story, the film surrounds Dian Fossey’s (Weaver) adventures in Africa studying the near extinct mountain gorillas and the bond that she forms with them that makes her job become her way of life. From the city to making a jungle cabin her home, an eager student to a strong willed animal activist, the movie explores Fossey’s love of the mountain gorilla that inspired younger generations and saved the species from extinction. A brilliant film shot through beautiful African scenery, and a superb performance by Weaver, Gorillas in the Mist is a must see movie that pulls at the heart strings of well.. anyone with a heart.
Extra props to Weaver for having the courage to sit amongst a silverback gorilla during filming.
Only a short review, but hey I’m new to this.
They’ll get longer. This movie is certainly worth the watch for anyone who loves a powerful tear jerker.
